Description
This 4-hour workshop will cover the basics of making your own flat jaw tongs. These tongs are good for holding flat bars, sheet, and can be sized to hold round and square bar.
As we say “If you can’t hold it, you can’t hit it!”
The skills that you learn in this class will let you make any tongs that you need for your future blacksmithing needs. There will also be another tong class where you can learn to make bolt jaw tongs, that are very useful for working with round and square bar stock.
The class is open to students of all skill levels BUT it is recommended that you have some forging skills before taking this class. Tong making requires good hammer control and precise forgings to produce quality tongs!
Each class is limited to 6 students and please note that classes are co-ed unless otherwise indicated.
Expect to leave with your own hand forged flat jaw tongs and the skills to make more on your own.
If you have prior experience this class will help you refresh your skills.
Note: This workshop is part of the Becoming a Blacksmith Series
The Becoming a Blacksmith Series of classes introduces more advanced techniques and also the tools need to continue on your blacksmithing journey. The workshops will include forging and heat treating your own hand tool, making tongs, and making your own hammer. Later in the series, we will also have workshops on making the tools to make tools!
Class will meet on Saturdays 10am – 2pm.
(Price includes a $30 materials fee)
