Plant Hanger

$190.00

In this 4 hour class, you will forge your own plant hanger. This plant hanger has some traditional design elements including a classic scroll and rivets. Building on the skills and knowledge you learned in the Introduction to Blacksmithing class, we will introduce several new techniques.

You will forge a fish-tail on flat stock and then form a traditional scroll. We will use a round punch to hot punch the holes for mounting the hanger to your house, shed, or deck!

The end of the hanger includes a hook that is forged from flat bar, however the dimensions of the bar are completely changed! This skill of changing the cross section of the steel stock and forging to different dimensions is a great skill to learn.

After forging the scroll and the hanger, we will use rivets to connect the pieces together to create a traditional hanger that could have been used for hanging merchant signs in the 19th century or plants in the 21st century!

The class will run about 4 hours as there will be a lot to do and learn – so it will be a fun time.

The class is open to students of all skill levels BUT it is recommended that you have some forging skills before taking this class. Some experience would be helpful for this class as there are many steps involved but don’t worry, I’ll be there to help you.

Each class is limited to 6 students and please note that classes are co-ed unless otherwise indicated.

Class will meet on Saturdays 10am – 2pm.

(Price includes a $30 materials fee)

This class will take place in The British Blacksmith forge located at
8477 Pools Brook Road
