Herb Chopper

Description

This beautiful herb chopper is hand forged from upcycled surplus steel. It feels nice and heavy in your hand and is ready to chop, mince, or slice anything in the kitchen. Perfect for chopping fresh herbs or whatever you fancy.

I use recycled or surplus steel which is cleaned and then heated to 2000 degrees F in a forge (so now it is really clean!). The steel is hammered into shape using my hand hammer and a delicate scroll forged at the end of the handle. The rest of the handle is gently curved to fit your hand perfectly. The shape of the cutting edge is refined using overlapping hammer blows and the bevel developed by slowly heating and hammering from different sides.
A knife grinder and files are used to add the final sharp edge to the herb chopper resulting in a very sharp tool.
This herb chopper is made from mild steel and it will hold its edge very well. It can easily be sharpened using a knife sharpener if needed.

The herb chopper is thoroughly cleaned and wire brushed and then seasoned with vegetable oil and baked at 350F for 2 hours.
Treat your herb chopper like a cast iron pan – Don’t leave it in water and dry it after use. If you need to re-season the herb chopper, wipe it with vegetable oil and heat at 350F for 2 hours and it will be as good as new.

Please keep in mind that each herb chopper is hand made by me, one at a time. So each item is unique and there will be slight differences between different items. If you like the one you see in the photos, you can be sure that the one you receive will be true to the one shown here as nothing leaves the forge unless I’m 100% satisfied with the finished product.

Most of my work is done on an anvil that is more than 150 years old that was imported from London England in the early 1900s.

Each herb chopper comes with a custom wooden stand to display your herb chopper. The wooden stand that will come with your herb chopper will be similar (not identical) to those in the photos as there are many differences in the natural textures of tree branches that I use. Each wooden stand is finished with a non-toxic beeswax finish to protect it – although you should always keep the stands dry and not let then stand in water.
